Tips for brewing the best cup of tea

We think that you'll find that Shipibo Treasure and Matte Teas are delicious -- and unlike any other teas you've tasted. To get the maximum benefits and flavor, however, the following are a few tips:

Most teas that you are familiar with come from tea leaf and need only be steeped in a cup of hot water for 3-4 minutes (any longer than that and they get bitter).

Shipibo Treasure and Mate Teas are different. The Cats Claw, Pau d'Arco and other herbs that make up these teas are a bit more coarse (they come from inner bark, roots, etc. ). So, while Shipibo Teas taste great and release a lot of nutritional benefits from simply steeping the tea bags -- the maximum taste and nutrition comes from gently boiling (simmering) the tea bags for 10-15 minutes.

Many "tea experts" also suggest using purified water and a non-metal tea kettle. Glass or porcelain lined kettles are economical and easy to locate in specialty stores.

The way that we prepare the teas is to drop 2 or 3 bags into 8-12 cups of room temperature, filtered water. We slowly bring the water to a boil (our tea kettle whistles when it has reached boiling) and then turn the burner to the lowest setting for another 5-7 minutes. We then enjoy this throughout the day (we prefer our tea at room temperature but you can place the prepared tea in a thermos -- or reheat as needed if you like it hot).

Whatever is left at the end of the day, we refrigerate overnight. (Shipibo teas taste great when served cold).

Unlike normal green, white or black teas, Shipibo teas do not get bitter when boiled. In fact, the gentle boiling brings out their best. If you like them sweeter, feel free to add a drop or two of clear Stevia extract or honey.
